Members of the Board
Dr. Anthony Richard Rowsell, DPhil FRCS FRACS (Plastic), is a fellow of Harris Manchester College, Oxford, conducting research into the management of battle casualties on the Western Front in the First World War. He is also a member of the telemedicine team computing department at Buckingham University. He was educated at St. Julian’s High School in Newport, Monmouthshire; St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, University of London and Jesus College, Oxford. He then trained in Plastic Surgery in East Grinstead, Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton; Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia and Oxford. He was appointed Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Guy’s Hospital and St. Thomas’ Hospital in 1989, where he specialised in the management of cleft lip and palate. He retired in 2005. Dr. Kazem Behbehani, PhD, FRCPath (UK) joined the World Health Organisation in 1990. He became WHO Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Governing Bodies in 2003 and in 2005 became a WHO Envoy. He co-chairs Harvard University’s Science Advisory Board for the Environment and Public Health and is a member of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)’s Ethics Review Committee. Dr Behbehani is actively involved in environmental and health issues, health management, application of information technology to health (eHealth), and development of interactive educational materials for public, professional and medical use (eLearning). He has received several awards and scientific recognitions and has more than 100 scientific publications and a book on science and technology to his name. Dr. Theodore Zeldin graduated from London University at 17 and after graduating subsequently from Christ Church, Oxford, helped to build up St Antony’s College, Oxford as the university’s postgraduate centre for international studies, and was its Dean for 13 years. His history books have focused on the role of the individual and of the emotions in every aspect of life. His 2,000-page History of French Passions won Britain’s top historical award, the Wolfson Prize and books Happiness and An Intimate History of Humanity and his BBC lectures on Conversation marked the expansion of his research to the art of living. His writings have been translated into 24 languages and has become a member of BBC Brains Trust and was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Hareth Fouad Efram Boustany is a Professor of Archaeology and History of the Civilizations at the Lebanese University, Beirut, and was Head of the Department for Arts and Archaeology until December 2007. He is a member of the executive councils of the Lebanese National UNESCO Commission and Lebanese National Heritage Foundation, and a visiting Professor of Phoenician Archaeology and History of Ancient Civilisations at the University of St-Esprit-Kaslik and the University of St. Joseph. Professor Boustany has previously been a consultant and head of the archaeology department of Solidere, The Lebanese Company for the Development and Reconstruction of Beirut Central District. However, he is most noted for his time as curator of the Beirut National Museum from 1970 to 1979. Professor Boustany took a doctorate in Oriental History and Archaeology at the Sorbonne, Paris.
