9th October 2008
This afternoon, 9 October 2008, the AMAR International Charitable Foundation will host an Armani Fashion show and a ladies' lunch in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Noor at the Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, London.
The event launches AMAR's urgent fundraising appeal to address the pressing needs of the millions of child orphans living in miserable conditions in Iraq.
Speaking ahead of the event, Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, founder and Executive Chairman of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation said:
“We are here today because upwards of 4 million orphan children in Iraq are living on the streets, swept into the crime and prostitution process. I know we can rescue these orphans. AMAR staff and volunteers can put in place special schooling and help the orphaned children find new homes. AMAR health professionals can start to tackle the diseases that run rampant among the orphaned children. The need is immediate. The reality of their distress is absolute.”
The AMAR Foundation has for nearly two decades been helping Iraqis with emergency and long-term health care, education provision and other services. More recently, it has become the second largest provider of health care provision in Iraq, behind the Iraqi Department of Health, providing health services to hundreds of thousands of Iraqis every month, from its health centres and house visits.
