Reproductive Health Services

AMAR PROVIDES ACCESS TO REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES THROUGH ALL ITS HEALTH PROJECTS, PROVIDING REQUIRED BUT OFTEN UNAVAILABLE SPECIALIST MEDICAL SUPPORT.

Women are able to access reproductive help, advice and treatment through AMAR’s Primary Healthcare Centres, health posts, mobile clinics and Women Health Volunteers. This includes access to a female doctor where possible within the Primary Healthcare Centres, alongside family planning advice and information and discussions about puberty.

Through the provision of these services, AMAR works to address the harmful effects of traditional social beliefs and practices surrounding reproductive health issues, including restrictions on women seeking medical advice without male relatives present and avoidance of discussions about puberty.

“I found a mother who had seven children at a young age. She was exhausted, overwhelmed and unable to care properly for her family. She also suffered from anaemia. She asked me to persuade her husband to accept the idea of family planning via the use of contraceptive pills. We talked to her husband and convinced him to change his mind regarding family planning after we explained that his wife’s health was at serious risk, as was her ability to care for the family.”
