Human Rights

AMAR DELIVERS AWARD-WINNING HUMAN RIGHTS TRAINING IN ORDER TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNITIES’ UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR RIGHTS, THE RULE OF LAW AND THEIR CIVIC RESPONSIBILITIES.

AMAR delivers tailored courses on human rights, the rule of law and citizenship. These have been delivered to thousands of vulnerable women, school and university students, tribal leaders, government employees working in such areas as health, education, border control and policing, prison inmates and prison guards.

AMAR believes that only when people claim their rights, and understand their civic responsibilities as citizens and employees in positions of authority, can a democratic and peaceful society flourish. These courses contribute to the development of a culture of support for human rights, help those whose rights were violated to find a voice with which to call for justice, and assist those previous transgressors to better understand their responsibilities, not only to themselves but to others, in a free and democratic society.

“After the workshops at the prison, I became aware of some laws, my duties and my rights. I started calling on the governmental agencies to respect these rights, asked the security officers at the prison to respect them as  well and filed some complaints through legal procedures against some officers who mistreat the prisoners.”
