In September 2023, AMAR’s Treasurer visited southern and northern Iraq to photograph people working on our projects. He also photographed some of the people who are being helped by our work.

In the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, he visited the primary healthcare centres run by AMAR in the Essian and Kabarto 1 camps for internally displaced persons; our psychiatric units in the Khanke and Essian camps; and met members of the AMAR Ashti (Peace) Choir, who were learning English in a project funded by the Sardar Group.

In the south, he visited the Abu Sakhair Centre, where trainee electrical engineers were working. Their training program is funded by one of AMAR’s corparte donors. He also visited a school in Al Khora where AMAR staff are providing health education. This was followed by a visit to a women’s centre in Al Khora run by AMAR offering IT and tailoring classes as well as a nursery and kindergarten. His day in Al Khora ended with a visit to a Primary Health Care centre run by AMAR.

On his final full day in Iraq, he visited the Chibayish Marshes and interviewed farmers deep in the Marshes to gain an understanding of their need for better primary school provision. Below are some of the photographs that he took on this trrip:
