VALUE FOR MONEY

AMAR IS DETERMINED EVERY YEAR TO ENSURE AS MUCH OF OUR FUNDING AS POSSIBLE IS SPENT WHERE IT IS NEEDED MOST – ON THE MANY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS WHO DEPEND ON US FOR MEDICAL CARE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING. THAT IS WHY ONLY A SMALL TEAM ARE EMPLOYED IN THE LONDON-BASED HEAD OFFICE TO PROVIDE STRATEGIC OVERSIGHT AND SUPPORT.

The vast majority of our staff and volunteers are locally trained native professionals who live in the communities they serve. This means they bring an unrivalled understanding of local context and local needs of the communities ensuring not only the efficacy but the cost-effectiveness of AMAR’s projects. Moreover, AMAR’s model is centred on building the capacity of existing structures and staff in-country to ensure that relevant skills and infrastructure are retained within Iraq and Lebanon long after project funding ceases, which is an integral part in ensuring sustainability of all project activities.

AMAR has a proven track record of using funding in the most effective and efficient way, maximising the impact of every pound spent to improve the lives of those in Iraq and Lebanon.

FISCAL YEAR 2014 SNAPSHOT

In 2014, our total expenditure was £2,547,754. Out of this, 84p in every pound was spent in-country on our projects. Administration costs were just 11p in every pound and fundraising took just 5p in every pound.

Despite the difficult economic climate, AMAR’s prudent approach and efficient use of resources continues to appeal to those looking to donate funds to an organisation with both the capacity and good sense to spend money as effectively as possible, attracting an ever-expanding list of both corporate and institutional donors, as outlined on our Partners page.

AMAR has stringent financial and project management controls both in-country and at Head Office level designed to maximise cost-effectiveness and ensure that all spending is verified. AMAR is both a registered charity and a registered company in the United Kingdom, as such it is obliged to provide annual accounts to both the Charity Commission and Companies House. AMAR is also a registered charity in Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen. All AMAR’s work is independently financially audited at least once annually in-country before being incorporated into the UK accounts for the purposes of producing annual accounts for the organisation as a whole. Additional financial audits also take place for specific projects. This transparency and accountability in AMAR’s operations helps ensure that value for money remains a high priority and can be demonstrated throughout AMAR’s work.
